" We worked with Dawn Shumway, Realtor, in 2003 to find our home in the Heights.   More than a knowledgeable neighborhood realtor, she is a pillar of the Heights community which she sells and promotes, at the same time. Dawn 's work as a Realtor and community leader is a reflection of her integrity, common sense, good humor, and professionalism. She lives up to her motto, “serving a hometown near downtown. ” ..."

About Dawn Shumway & Associates

We at Dawn Shumway and Associates want to be your neighborhood Realtor, and we’re dedicated to serving you and your home-buying needs, as well as our community. We won’t try to steer you into listed properties, which may not be right for you. Instead, we'll assist you in identifying your "dream home", then get to work finding it for you! We share your love for the charm, quality and history of these stately homes, and would like nothing better than to help match your needs, to one of these beautiful properties.

Dawn Shumway, her husband Bob, and their two children, Kristin and Brad, moved to the Heights 25 years ago. Even back then, they recognized the once-charming character and the quality construction that was built into these wonderful old homes. (Dawn is a past Woodland Heights Association officer).

The Shumways have been significantly involved in the neighborhood and Dawn served as an officer for the Woodland Heights Civic Association. They have been involved in neighborhood activities such as the Woodland Heights Home and Garden Tour and the annual Lights in the Heights ® celebration held in December of each year.

Among the many projects that the Shumway family have spearheaded, are the clearing of White Oak Park, which had been neglected and left in a state of disrepair for many years. They also worked to bring about a 2.5 mile jogging trail along the White Oak Bayou, as well as several bridges. The Shumways have been personally involved in the planting of 300 trees, and have participated in planting another 300 to 400 through the Civic Association. Largely, through their efforts, the four-faced clock was installed by the Civic Association, which sits at the corner of Houston Avenue and White Oak Drive.

Likewise, it is through their efforts that Victorian benches and cast iron planters are installed at bus stops throughout the area. The landscaping of the esplanade at Houston Avenue and N. Main, is a direct result of the Shumways' dedication to neighborhood beautification.
